Abstract
A self-consistent thermal model for a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) is presented using the powerful finite-element method. Temperature profiles for the etched-wall VCSELs are obtained iterative ly, after considering their temperature-dependent material properties and the spatial distribution of all the significant heat sources.
