The adsorption of phenol from aqueous solution onto activated carbon h
as been measured at 15, 25 and 35 degrees C under influence of Na-p-oc
tylbenzenesulfonate in the premicellar and the micellar region. The ad
sorption isotherms to be obtained are exhibiting stages and maxima. Th
e stages of the adsorption isotherms could be confirmed by calorimetri
c measurement of the concentration function of the heat of exchange. T
he osmotic coefficient of the surfactant in the bulk phase was measure
d by vapour pressure osmometry. The aggregation number and the degree
of counterion binding were determined as a requirement of the modellin
g of the micellar behaviour. The aim of the investigation is the devel
opment of a model, which includes all these experimental results refle
cting the interactions of micellar systems both in the bulk and in the
adsorption phase.
