Twisted nematic liquid crystals have been adsorbed in submicrometer mi
cropores of amorphous gamma-Al2O3 membranes. A large optical activity
indicates a long-range chiral structure of the liquid crystal along th
e pore channels. NMR spectra show that the directors are oriented very
close to the pore axes. This suggests a novel long-range conic helica
l structure of the director field in the adsorbed liquid crystal.
