Until recently, financial performance measurement has been the main cr
iterion by which management judged company performance. However, it is
increasingly being realized that equal scrutiny has to be applied to
the measurement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the underlying
business processes. performance measurement can be applied to almost a
ny business process but this article concentrates on just one; softwar
e development, which is, in many instances, one of the most costly and
difficult to manage elements of any project carried our by companies
such as EASAMS in which software forms a major part. This article desc
ribes just some ways in which software measurement has been successful
ly applied to assist the management of project software development. N
one of the techniques described are claimed to be unique but are prese
nted as examples of what can be achieved with relatively little invest
ment.
