Abstract
Eddy currents induced in a ferromagnetic slab of arbitrary cross secti on placed in an alternating transverse magnetic (TM) field are analyze d. A hybrid method is used, based on the Galerkin formulation of the f inite element method (FEM) coupled with the method of separation of va riables. The quasilinearisation is performed on the basis of the Brouw er's fixed point theorem. A numerical example is presented for a condu ctor of rectangular cross section. Plots of the eddy current power los ses against the excitation frequency are shown.
