The singly-magic nuclei provide a testing ground for the microscopical
models on the residual interactions among alike valence nucleons with
in relatively simple quantum systems. As part of our systematic studie
s of the neutron-rich N = 82 nuclei, we have performed measurements of
the level lifetimes in the picosecond regime on Xe-136 and Ba-138 usi
ng the fast timing beta gamma gamma(t) method. A summary of the result
s is given on the Xe-136, Ba-138 and Ce-140 nuclei.
