A soft X-ray laser plasma source described can be used as a stable spe
ctroscopic source generating a great number of various multiply-charge
d ion spectral lines. The laser system produces laser pulses of nano-
to picosecond duration that is achieved by multicascade compression du
e to stimulated scattering. K- and L-spectra of various multiply-charg
ed ions were recorded and analyzed. The dependencies of these spectra
on duration and shape of the laser pulse are discussed.
