The molecular structure of bis(dipivaloylmethanato)copper(II) has been
determined by sector-microphotometer gas electron diffraction. The ex
perimental data are consistent with a monomeric square-planar structur
e with angle OCuO = 93.7 +/- 0.7 degrees. The structural parameters ar
e as follows: r(g)(Cu-O) = 1.916 +/- 0.005 Angstrom, r(g)(C-O) = 1.284
+/- 0.009 Angstrom, r(g)(C-C-ring) = 1.399 +/- 0.023 Angstrom, r(g) (
C-C-t) = 1.581 +/- 0.022 Angstrom, r(g)(C-t-C-m) = 1.512 +/- 0.006 Ang
strom, r(g)(C-m-H) = 1.112 +/- 0.009 Angstrom. The amplitudes of vibra
tion have been calculated by a normal vibration treatment using a vale
nce force field.
