Abstract
We report the effects of uniaxial stress applied along the least condu cting direction (a-axis) of the organic superconductor kappa-(BEDT-TTF )(2)Cu(NCS)(2). We find that the superconducting transition temperatur e decreases with stress (dT(c)/dp(a) = -2 K/kbar). Furthermore, we fin d an increase in the area of the closed orbits on the Fermi surface wi th stress. These observations are at variance with predictions based s olely on the expected expansion of the conducting plane unit cell by t he Poisson effect. We discuss our results in the light of previous str ess measurements.
