The compound (-)-bromomenthyltetraphenylcyclopentadiene has been synth
esised. It reacts with [Ru-3(CO)(12)] to give [Ru(eta(5)-C(5)Ph(4)R(1)
)(CO)(3)]Br (R(1)* = menthyl) which on heating yields [Ru(eta(5)-C(5)
Ph(4)R(1))(CO)(2)Br] 1. Alternatively complex 1 may be prepared by tr
eating bromoform with [Ru(eta(5)-C(5)Ph(4)R(1))(CO)(2)H], generated f
rom [Ru-3(CO)(12)] and C(5)Ph(4)R(1)H. A crystal structure of complex
1 shows that the crystals are monoclinic, space group P2(1) (C-2(2).
