It was recently shown that a thin layer of oscillating photosensitive
version of Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction can serve a novel model of pa
rallel image processing. We study both experimentally and computationa
lly the mechanism involved in the image processing by the photosensiti
ve oscillating chemical reaction. We propose a scheme for some operati
ons of image processing in a network of locally connected oscillators,
based on phase shift of oscillations. We also propose an improved che
mical description for photo-inhibition of the ruthenium-catalyzed vers
ion of the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction.
