Cj. Pratt, A REVIEW OF SOURCE CONTROL OF URBAN STORMWATER RUNOFF, Journal of the Institution of Water and Environmental Management, 9(2), 1995, pp. 132-139
Stormwater management, based upon techniques located at or close to wh
ere rain falls, is reviewed and two categories (at the ground surface
and belowground) are illustrated. The management of stormwater by thes
e source control techniques requires both quantity and quality design
criteria to be employed, and for maintenance provision to be clearly i
n-built. Source control techniques have been studied in projects since
the 1980s, and it is suggested that the present emphasis upon sustain
able development should encourage their incorporation within environme
ntal/catchment management strategies to assist in addressing a number
of identified problems from the uncontrolled discharges of stormwater.
