Abstract
A bright green photoluminescence with a peak at 540 nm was observed at low temperature in the alpha-phase ZnAl2S4 ternary compound grown by heating ZnS, Al and S powders. The emission is interpreted as arising from donor-acceptor(DA)-pair recombination. At room temperature the gr een emission is dominated by two weak emission bands in the infrared s pectral region.
