Abstract
Mitotic and meiotic chromosomes of three bisexual weevil species from Poland (Phyllobius pyri (L.), Phyllobius urtiocae Deg. and Tanymecus p alliatus (F.)) were studied. Ah the investigated species have the same chromosome number and sex determining system; their meioformula is n= 10 + Xy(p). The karyotype of Phyllobius urticae Deg. consists of 5 pai rs of subtelocentric, 3 pairs of submetacentric and, 2 pairs of metace ntric autosomes; a medium sized metacentric X and the smallest y chrom osome. All the autosomes in Tanymecus palliatus (F.) are metacentric; the X chromosome is submetacentric and the dot-shaped y chromosome is the smallest element of the set.
