E. Lidbrink et al., SINGLE-VIEW SCREENING MAMMOGRAPHY - PSYCHOLOGICAL, ENDOCRINE AND IMMUNOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF RECALLING FOR A COMPLETE 3-VIEW EXAMINATION, European journal of cancer, 31A(6), 1995, pp. 932-933
To investigate influences of a recall due to inconclusive findings on
screening mammography, 45 women were examined with psychological ('moo
d' and 'coping'), endocrine and immunological tests immediately after
complete mammography (first interview), 2-3 days after the initial scr
eening mammography, and 3 weeks after the women had been informed of n
ormal findings (second interview). The mood score in the first intervi
ew was significantly lower than in the second. No differences were fou
nd in the endocrine and immunological tests. The recall for complete m
ammography provoked a significant short-term emotional reaction not re
flected in changes in the endocrine and immune functions.
