Abstract
The petroleum industry is the biggest and the most widespread industry in the world. It employs millions of people and can be found everywhe re. Such an extensive industry can impact the environment in many ways , from exploration through development, production, transportation, re fining, and retail sales to waste disposal. The industry has an ever-i ncreasing need for policies and procedures to manage environmental ris k and waste reduction and for people who can apply their skills in pre venting and mitigating the many types of potential environmental impac t. Environmental geology accordingly is one of the disciplines that is in a growth mode within the industry.
