The charge transfer (CT) complexes of pyrene with pi-acceptors such as
tetracyanoethylene, 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinonedimethane, 2,3-dichloro-
5,6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone and p-chloranil were studied spectrophotome
trically in solution using UV-visible and fluorescence spectroscopies.
The effect of chemical structure of the accepters on equilibrium and
spectroscopic parameters of the CT complex formation of pyrene was inv
estigated. In addition, the role of medium viscosity, temperature and
the influence of some accepters on the efficiency of the fluorescence
quenching of pyrene was studied. The solid CT complexes of pyrene with
some accepters were prepared and investigated with infrared and condu
ctivity measurements.
