A recently reported broad-spectrum chiral selector and two of its homo
logs were incorporated into polymethylhydrosiloxane and each of the po
lymers was immobilized on silica gel to afford chiral stationary phase
s (CSPs) useful for the separation of the enantiomers of a wide variet
y of compounds by HPLC and/or supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC)
. These CSPs are stable toward normal-phase, reversed-phase, and sub/s
upercritical fluid conditions and are not adversely affected by additi
on of carboxylic acids or amines as mobile-phase modifiers. These poly
meric CSPs show higher efficiencies and shorter analysis times when us
ed with sub/supercritical carbon dioxide then when used in the HPLC mo
de. Additionally, some separations are achievable using sub/supercriti
cal carbon dioxide but not when the same column is used in the HPLC mo
de.
