T. Kraus et al., ASBESTOS-RELATED LARYNGEAL CARCINOMA - A NEW OCCUPATIONAL-DISEASE - AVAILABLE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE AND APPLICABLE HEALTH REGULATIONS, Laryngo-, Rhino-, Otologie, 74(6), 1995, pp. 371-374
According to the current regulations pertaining to occupational diseas
es lung cancer and mesothelioma can be compensated as asbestos-related
malignomas under certain circumstances. For several years there has b
een controversial discussion as to whether laryngeal carcinomas can al
so be caused by occupational asbestos exposure and should therefore be
added to the list of occupational diseases. Critical evaluation of th
e available scientific knowledge with the scope of currently applicabl
e regulations does not warrant adding asbestos-related laryngeal carci
nomas to the list of occupational diseases at present. Further investi
gations are urgently necessary and may possibly bring new insights.
