Abstract
Let M and ($) over tilde M be n-dimensional compact complex manifolds, and f : ($) over tilde M --> M a modification. We prove here that M h as a balanced metric (i.e., an hermitian metric such that its Kahler f orm omega satisfies d omega(n-1) = 0) if and only if ($) over tilde M carries a balanced metric too.
