Kb. Tang et al., (HG,PB) SR-2(LN,CE)(2)CU2OZ(LN=GD, ND), A NEW FAMILY OF MERCURY-LEAD-BASED SUPERCONDUCTING CUPRATES, Physica. C, Superconductivity, 249(1-2), 1995, pp. 1-4
A new series of mercury-lead-based layered cuprates (Hg,Pb)Sr-2(Ln,Ce)
(2)Cu2Oz (Ln = Gd, Nd, Eu, Sm) has been synthesized using precursors S
r-2(Ln,Ce)(2)Cu2Oz prepared by the citrate gel process. X-ray diffract
ion indicates that the sample with nominal composition (Hg0.5Pb0.5)Sr-
2(Gd1.5Ce0.5)Cu2Oz has a tetragonal structure with lattice parameters
a = 3.846, c = 29.418 Angstrom and a space group of I-4/mmm. Energy-di
spersive X-ray spectrometry analysis confirms that the Hg ions are inc
orporated into the structure. Resistance measurements show that the Ln
= Gd sample is a superconductor with a T-c(onset) of 38 K.
