Abstract
The pH dependent absorption spectrum of fluorescein doped silica and a luminosilica sol-gel glasses is used to demonstrate that the xerogel m atrices alter the stability of certain fluorescein structures. In addi tion, time-resolved spectral changes demonstrate that ionic diffusion plays a significant role in the observed kinetics.
