The one-loop coefficients of Luscher's effective Hamiltonian are compu
ted for an SU(2) Yang-Mills theory where the gauge-invariant regulariz
ation was chosen according to Palumbo's noncompact lattice formulation
. A comparison with the standard results yields an estimate of the err
ors arising in Palumbo's framework due to the introduction of unphysic
al auxiliary fields. In the continuum limit, which is possible and sen
sible in Luscher's theory for small volumes, we recover Luscher's orig
inal result if Palumbo's renormalization of the coupling to the auxili
ary field is assumed.
