The purpose of this study waste analyze Lodahl and Kejner's (l965) job
involvement scale using classical and modem test theory. The research
participants were 250 employees of the banking industry in Puerto Ric
o. Results demonstrated that instead of classical and modem test theor
y being comparable at the analytical level, they are complimentary if
one wants to analyze properly a test or scale. Results also show the p
roblem of unidimensionality, validity, and reliability found in recent
literature concerning Lodahl and Kejner's scale. The item response th
eory, Samejima's (1969) categorical model and generalizability theory,
evidence their superiority over classical test theory. Another import
ant finding was that Lodahl and Kejner's job involvement scale did not
fit the Samejima's model, meaning that the scale is not an adequate i
nstrument for this specific sample.
