We investigated the saturation dynamics of the (OsO4)-Os-192-absorptio
n line P(46)A(1)(2)he infrared nu(3)-band, induced by excitation with
CO2-laser light, and determined the decay constant T-1 of the saturati
on as a function of the OsO4 gas pressure. From the linear dependence
of the relaxation rate T-1(-1) on the pressure we additionally determi
ned the collision cross section sigma=6.6X10(-18) m(2) which is substa
ntial for the evaluation of the pressure broadening of saturation dips
in the saturation spectroscopy of OsO. m The method allows to measure
the influence of collisions on homogeneous line widths, measured in s
aturation exeriments.
