A case of ventricular paroxysmal tachycardia has been reported in case
of a 9 years old symptomless German shepherd male dog that was observ
ed during the ECG examination. Types, causes and possibilities of trea
tment of ventricular tachycardia have been outlined. Characteristics o
f this arrhythmia (Fig. 1) have been demonstrated by detailing the ECG
curve of the present case. Treatment of the animals was carried out g
iving 10 mg/body-mass kg of mexiletine during 5 days. As a result of t
he treatment, a standard sinus tachycardia was observed in the ECG cur
ve, the ventricular extrasystole ceased completely (Fig. 2).
