In order to obtain more stereochemical data on cycloolefins ring-openi
ng polymerization, we undertook tile study of the reaction of cyclopen
tene with the following catalytic systems: WCl6/iBu(3)Al/epichlorohydr
in, WCl6/iBu(3)Al/chloranil, WCl6/SnPh(4), WCl6/Allyl(4)Si, WCl6/iBu(2
)AlOAliBu(2). The microstructure of the polyalkenamers was determined
by H-1 and C-13-NMR spectroscopy. Cyclopentene polymerization displays
a characteristic stereospecificity dependent on catalyst nature or re
action temperature.
