Gj. Hwang et al., REVERSIBLE EXTRASKELETAL UPTAKE OF BONE SCANNING IN PRIMARY HYPERPARATHYROIDISM, The Journal of nuclear medicine, 37(3), 1996, pp. 469-471
Metastatic calcification within soft tissue, such as the lung and stom
ach, is associated with hyperparathyroidism, chronic renal failure, he
modialysis, metastatic neoplasm and hypervitaminosis D. Bone scanning
agents variably accumulate within these extraskeletal metastatic calci
fications. We report a patient with primary hyperparathyroidism whose
bone scan revealed abnormal uptake in the liver, lung, stomach and par
athyroid gland followed by complete resolution of extraskeletal uptake
less than 1 wk after parathyroidectomy.
