Abstract
Reaction of primary heterocyclic amidines with benzotriazole and ethyl glyoxylate or ethyl glyoxylate equivalents afforded the corresponding alpha-benzotriazolyl-alpha-amidino esters which, upon treatment with potassium cyanide yielded the corresponding 3-amino-2-ethoxycarbonyl i midazo [1,2-a] pyridines and related compounds.
