Abstract
The use of the 3-O-(N-acyl)carbamoyl directing groups in the synthesis of the potent anti-Herpes virus agent 2'-deoxy-5-ethyl-4'-thio-D-urid ine is described. This includes details of experiments to optimise the carbamate substitution and a multi-gram exemplification of the key st eps.
