A. Mansri et al., NEW STYRENE POLYMERS WITH KETO-ENOL SIDE- CHAINS .2. SYNTHESIS AND POLYMERIZATION OF BETA-BETA-TRIKETONE MONOMERS, European Polymer Journal, 32(3), 1996, pp. 277-283
New styrenic beta-beta-ketones: 1-(p-vinylphenyl) hexane-1,3,5-trione
(1), 1-(p-vinylphenyl)-5-phenylpentane-1,3,5-trione (2) and 2-p-vinylb
enzoylindane-1,3-dione (3) are described. Their ability to homopolymer
ize and copolymerize with styrene has been tested; while homopolymers
are insoluble resins of low interest for further photoreticulation, co
polymers of 1 and 2 with styrene have been shown to be photoreticulabl
e soluble products. Soluble (co)polymers of 3 have not been produced.
Identifications of monomers and polymers (elemental analysis, IR, UV,
H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectroscopies, steric exclusion chromatography)
have made possible the evaluations of the Various ketoenols distributi
ons in monomers and polymers and of the Alfrey Price parameters.
