Complex a.c. susceptibility measurements in a broad field range (1 Oe
< h(ac) < 100 Oe) have been made on Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O (Bi-2223 phase) b
ulk samples obtained by combined magnetic melt texturing and hot press
ing. Highly anisotropic properties are observed. Improved intergranula
r coupling is obtained in the direction perpendicular to the applied s
tress and the magnetic field direction. An intragranular peak is also
observed for the same direction. This is the first time that an intrag
ranular loss peak has been clearly seen in a bismuth-based compound, w
hich indicates that the intragranular contribution is strongly increas
ed.
