Most existing structural seismic design methods are based on the limit
design concepts to reflect maximum deformation attained, through the
use of a ductility factor. But, according to the real structural seism
ic damage, the ductility factor is just one indicator of complex struc
ture nonlinear behavior, so it is limited in the information that it p
rovides to designers. In this paper, one cumulative damage model of re
inforced concrete under a reversal cycle load is described, based on t
wo damage factors. This technique permits one to evaluate not only the
damage based on ductility, but also the cumulative damage based on th
e repetitive nature of the response.
