Abstract
The purposes of this study were to (a) identify the reasons to which u nemployed persons with spinal cord injury (SCI) attribute their jobles s status; and (b) determine whether persons in different demographic c ategories hold different beliefs in this regard. A total of 231 partic ipants completed the Multidimensional Adjustment Profile (Krause & Ans on, 1995). The primary reason cited for not working was inability to p hysically perform the same type of work following the SCI. Gender, rac e, age, and level of injury were all associated with different reasons . Counselors must take into account their clients' unique perceptions of the barriers that prevent them from working.
