Abstract
The influence of the coupling of inelastic and transfer channels on th e absorption cross section behind the barrier is discussed for reactio ns induced by weakly bound projectiles. It is shown that because of th e prevailing positive a values a decrease of the absorption cross sect ion may occur. The result is demonstrated for a Be-11+C-12 system usin g the coupled reaction channel approach. The adiabatic potential energ ies of the asymptotic states which are subjected to strong coupling ma y give a natural explanation of this effect.
