Surfactant spreading phenomena on thin films is a fundamental problem
in a number of fields including biomedical and chemical engineering. C
oating processes, film drainage, and paint technology are all examples
of technological applications. Research in this area has experienced
a recent surge of activity, partly due to the biomedical applications
of surfactant replacement therapy in prematurely born infants. A brief
review of the surfactant spreading literature is given in this letter
