S. Zaragoza et al., EFFECTIVENESS OF CALCIUM NITRATE AND GA(3) ON THE CONTROL OF PEEL-PITTING OF FORTUNE MANDARINE, Journal of Horticultural Science, 71(2), 1996, pp. 321-326
Calcium nitrate reduces peel-pitting and cuticular water permeability
of 'Fortune' mandarin when applied just before or at fruit colour-brea
k. Gibberellic acid (GA(3)) also reduces the percentage of affected fr
uits, although with lower efficiency. However, GA(3) had no effect on
cuticular water permeability. As GA(3) delays senescence and only part
ially controls peel-pitting, peel senescence may not be the unique fac
tor involved in this physiological disorder. With the exception of pee
l resistance to puncturing, peel pitting and cuticular permeability, c
alcium nitrate did not affect fruit characteristics.
