M. Bruze et al., SENSITIZATION STUDIES WITH MOMETASONE FUROATE, TIXOCORTOL PIVALATE, AND BUDESONIDE IN THE GUINEA-PIG, Contact dermatitis, 34(3), 1996, pp. 161-164
Mometasone furoate is a new corticosteroid, synthesized to have an imp
roved ratio of anti-inflammatory potential to adverse effects. The gui
nea pig maximization test was used to determine the sensitizing capaci
ty of mometasone furoate, and also to investigate cross-reaction patte
rns in animals sensitized to tixocortol pivalate and budesonide, respe
ctively. Tixocortol pivalate was shown to be a sensitizer in the guine
a pig, but cross-reactions to other tested corticosteroids were not ob
served. Furthermore, no sensitizing capacity could be demonstrated for
budesonide or mometasone furoate.
