Abstract
The first syntheses of enantiomerically pure (2R, 3R) and (2S, 3S) 3-h ydroxypipecolic acids 1 and 2 respectively, have been achieved from me thyl 7-methyl-3-oxo-6-octenoate. Key steps involved asymmetric hydroge nation and electrophilic amination.
