A case of a two year old Newfoundland-dog with a severe chronic inflam
mation of the left epididymis is described. The symptoms are illustrat
ed by special andrological findings (palpation, ultrasound, semen qual
ity) and differentiated from other alterations of the intrascrotal org
ans. Therapy was directed towards the prevention of inflammation expan
sion to the right, macromorphologically unchanged testis and epididymi
s as well as towards the maintenance of the dogs fertilizing ability.
It consists of a three weeks parenteral antibiotic treatment and of ca
stration of the left testis and epididymis. The therapeutic effects ar
e controlled by another andrological examination performed two and a h
alf months after the unilateral castration.
