The crystal structures of two newly synthesized ligands based on 2,4,6
-triamino-1,3,5-triazine (3 and 4) have been determined and their hydr
ogen-bonded and pi-pi stacked supramolecular structures have been anal
ysed. Two copper(II) complexes of these ligands (5 and 6) illustrate t
he formation of metal-ion directed self-assembled superstructures whos
e networks are markedly modified as a consequence of the introduction
of the coordinated metal centres.
