P. Campbell et al., MAGNETIC DIPOLE AND ELECTRIC QUADRUPOLE-MOMENTS OF THE NEUTRON-DEFICIENT BISMUTH ISOTOPES, Nuclear physics. A, 598(1), 1996, pp. 61-81
The complete hyperfine structures of the A = 202, 203 and 204 bismuth
isotopes have been observed in the 306.7 nm line using an extremely se
nsitive gas cell technique of laser spectroscopy. The magnetic moments
, quadrupole moments and relative changes in the mean square charge ra
dii have been extracted and have been used to study the bulk and valen
ce nuclear behaviour around Pb-308. The trends-of the quadrupole momen
ts of the proton-particle, neutron-hole ground and isomeric systems ar
e observed to be very nearly identical throughout the Z greater than o
r equal to 82, N less than or equal to 126 region. Furthermore the cor
respondence between the behaviour of Q(s) and the behaviour of the gro
und state charge radii demonstrates that the global systematics of thi
s region are closer than those of any other.
