NEW DICARBOLLIDE COMPLEXES OF URANIUM

A series of new uranium complexes incorporating dicarbollide ligands ( C2B9H112-) has been synthesized. The uranium(TV) bis(dicarbollide) com plex [Li(THF)(4)](2)- [U(eta(5)-C2B9H11)(2)Br-2] was obtained from the reaction of UBr4(NCMe)(4) with 2 equiv of Li2C2B9H11 in THF, and its structure determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Similarly, t he uranium(III) complexes [U(eta(5)-C2B9H11)I-2(THF)(2)](-) and [U(eta (5)-C2B9H11)(2)I- (THF)](2-) were isolated from the reactions of UI3-( TRF)(4) with different dicarbollide salts, and the structure of the re lated dimethyldicarbollide complex (3)P)(2)N][U(eta(5)-C(2)Me(2)B(9)H( 9))I-2(THF)(2)] determined by X-ray crystallography.
