As. Belov et al., HIGH-INTENSITY SOURCE OF POLARIZED NEGATIVE HYDROGEN-IONS WITH A RESONANT CHARGE-EXCHANGE PLASMA IONIZER, Review of scientific instruments, 67(3), 1996, pp. 1293-1295
The Moscow Institute for Nuclear Research atomic-beam type hydrogen io
ns is described. The production of H- ions is based on the resonant ch
arge exchange of polarized thermal hydrogen atoms and D- ions in deute
rium plasma. Improvements in the D- plasma source are outlined. The po
larized source produces a pulsed H- beam with a peak current up to 1 m
A and a pulse duration of 180 mu s at a repetition rate of 10 Hz. The
normalized emittance for 90% of the beam particles is 1.8 pi mm mrad.
The polarimeter of low energy H- ions is also described. The polarizat
ion of the H- ions was measured to be 0.87+/-0.02. (C) 1996 American I
