Y. Mandiang et G. Cizeron, PHOSPHORUS EFFECTS ON MECHANICAL-PROPERTIES CHANGES IN TYPE-316 TI STAINLESS-STEELS, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 206(2), 1996, pp. 241-248
The influence of phosphorus has been investigated in the 600-800 degre
es C temperature range by examining the changes in hardness, tensile a
nd fracture characteristics of type 316 Ti stainless steels, previousl
y cold-worked or presolution-treated. A comparison of the results obta
ined from the different casts studied shows that the beneficial effect
s of phosphorus in the improvement of the mechanical characteristics i
s due to the fact that this element is conducive to abundant and fine
nucleation of carbides, particularly that of the M(23C)6 chromium carb
ide.
