Abstract
This study examines gratifications sought from telephones and variatio ns in behavioral patterns of telephone use. Such research is increasin gly important as telephones become a mixed mass-media, interpersonal c ommunication channel, The results of a survey of Midwestern adults del ineate social, entertainment, and instrumental dimensions of telephone use. Uses vary considerably across specific demographics.
