Abstract
The important role that untranslated regions of mRNAs (UTR) may play i n gene regulation and expression is now widely accepted. For this reas on we developed UTRDB, a specialized database of 5'- and 3'-UTR of euk aryotic mRNAs cleaned of redundancy. This paper describes the composit ion and the general feature of UTRDB. The analysis of UTRDB by using s uitable statistical methods could provide useful information for guidi ng the experimental work aimed at delucidating the role of UTR sequenc es in ene regulation and expression.
