We consider methods for calculating the surface temperature T-s of pol
ymers upon exposure to infrared laser radiation during modification, p
yrolysis, ablation, ignition, etc. We have shown that we need to calcu
late the values of T-s for polymers using different analytical express
ions after estimating the value of the dimensionless parameter u = mu
root at(e), where mu is the absorption coefficient for the laser radia
tion, a is the thermal diffusivity, and t(e) is the radiation exposure
time. Under these conditions, we achieve the smallest calculation err
or and we can take into account ''volume'' absorption of radiation.
