Abstract
Hospital admissions for asthma to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh ha ve continued to increase. Asthma accounted for 8% of hospital admissio ns between 1986 and 1992. Twice as many males were admitted with asthm a as females. Nonwhite children comprise 41% of admissions. Air qualit y has greatly improved in the greater Pittsburgh area. Asthma admissio ns peak during the months of September through November. Hopefully the National Asthma Education Program Guidelines distributed in 1992 will have an impact on the rate of asthma hospitalizations.
