P. Klipstein et al., RHABDOMYOLYSIS AS A COMPLICATION OF A SEV ERE HYPERTONIC DEHYDRATION - A CASE-REPORT, Klinische Padiatrie, 208(2), 1996, pp. 88-90
Rhabdomyolysis can be caused by aetiologic completely different factor
s. It can occur only few hours following beginning of enteritis and re
fusal of ingestion. We report the case of a 5 month old male infant, w
hich showed the clinical characteristics of a hypertonic dehydration o
n admission to hospital. Serum levels of transaminases, creatinine, ur
ea, lactated hydrogenase, creatine kinase and urinary excretion of myo
globin were highly elevated. Forced diuresis, compensation of acidosis
and electrolyte disturbances could prevent the development of an acut
e renal failure - the most important complication of rhabdomyolysis. T
he boy could be discharged without any residuals of this episode of di
sease.
